Consumer Credit Counseling One fixed monthly payment. Total client costs exceed amount of original debt. Finding new credit during the course of the program is difficult. Client is debt free in 2-8 years. Creditor terms are set in advance. Credit score cannot be lowered by credit bureaus because you enroll. Credit report can show notations for up to seven years; lenders view this unfavorably. Typically includes only credit card debt, and in some cases only certain credit card creditors.	Credit Card Debt Settlement One fixed monthly payment. Total repayment, including program fees, are less than you currently owe. Finding new credit during the course of the program is difficult. Client is debt free in 1 to 3 years. Each creditor offers unpredictable terms. Credit score suffers initially, but credit can be rebuilt faster. Credit blemishes may be compensated in part by lowering your overall debt and improving your debt-to-income ratio. Includes ALL unsecured debts.
